Link of the Week: Writers Read NYC

The opportunities for cultural and artistic exposure in New York City are rampant–museums and culture centers, ethnic food of any kind you can imagine, musical performances on stages and subway platforms, and literary events aplenty in book stores and cafes.

One such literary event is part of series put on by Writers Read NYC. In 2001 Writers Read NYC  was established “by a group of writers looking to showcase their work and that of others” (Source). WRNYC puts on six events each year that feature established and emerging writers of both fiction and nonfiction. Attendees to the reading events in the city can expect to hear a mix of form, be it poetry, essay, memoir, or short stories.

The next reading for 2015 is coming up on April 26th at The Sidewalk Café, 94 Avenue A.

Query Roulette Volunteer Opportunity

klk

On March 3rd, the WNBA is going to be holding their Query Roulette event, and they’re looking for volunteers to help with the following activities:

  • Helping with set-up
  • Checking in participants
  • Appointment “timekeeping” (letting participants know how much time they’ve left before switching to their next 10-minute appointment)
  • Overall helping with any questions, information, hosting.

The Query Roulette is going to be a great night–nearly 30 writers have registered to seek one-on-one advice from 10 literary agents.  We’re looking for a few member volunteers before and during the event. Would you like to help? This fundraiser is an ideal way to meet other members and get involved with the association.

This event will take place at the Association of American Publishers office (71 Fifth Ave @ 15th St.) from 6:30-8:45pm. Volunteers are needed between 5:45pm and 8:30pm. If you are interested for some or all of the time needed, please email me at membership@wnba-nyc.org (Subject: QR Volunteer Help).  Let me know what time you’d be available.
