Professor Karen Holt has spent her entire career writing and editing, working for a decade as a newspaper reporter before moving on to books, magazines, and websites. She’s held staff positions including managing editor at Primedia, deputy editor at Publishers Weekly, contributing books editor at O, the Oprah Magazine, and founding editor of the Reservoir Square Books imprint.
She contributes frequently to print and online publications as a freelance writer. Her work has been published in Essence, Parade, the New York Post, Folio, Working Mother, Booklist, Foreword Reviews, Barnes and Noble Review, and many other magazines and websites.
As an editorial consultant for the Authors Guild, she contributed to the organization’s blog and its print publication, The Bulletin, and frequently hosted the BookTalk Nation author interview series.
Also an independent book editor, she works with authors at all stages of their career to shape and polish their manuscripts.
Professor Holt has a BA in journalism from Western Washington University and an MA in creative writing from Manhattanville College. She teaches Editorial Principles and Practices.
