ABOUT THE POSITION: This is a paid, full-time, temporary internship (3-6 months) that is designed to expose successful candidates to all facets of the publishing business while assisting our editorial, sales, marketing, design, and production teams.

Ideal candidates should have:

  • An interest in the editorial process, design, digital and social media, and pop culture
  • Enrolled in Pace MS in Publishing Program
  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic and the desire to learn
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and InDesign is a definite plus.

Candidate(s) will be exposed to all or some of the following:

  • Working directly with senior staff members to provide general administrative assistance;
  • Working with editors to provide general editorial support on book projects across all genres;
  • Working with the creative director on covers and interiors;
  • Working with the production director and managing editor to manage workflow;
  • Working with the sales director and/or our publicity and marketing team.

PSYCHOLOGY TODAY Advertising/Design Internship

 Description:  Psychology Today has an excellent opportunity for a few smart and talented advertising and/or graphic design interns at our office in NYC.  We are a small staff, so you will be a key member of the team.  Interns will be required to work 2 to 3 days per week.

 Duties include:

  • Working closely with the Associate Publisher, advertising staff, and art department on sales and marketing projects.
  • Assisting our production department with print and online advertising preparation, as well as developing marketing materials.
  • Outstanding professionalism and organization are a requirement.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn programs quickly.
  • Should be able to juggle several tasks at once and work autonomously.

Graphic design skills and prior experience in Photoshop and InDesign are necessary.  The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in publishing, advertising, or graphic design, along with strong editorial and writing skills. The position starts ASAP and will run into Spring  of 2015, three or more days a week (full-time preferred), and include a small daily stipend.

Internship Opportunity

Scout Books & MediaScout Books & Media, Inc. is looking for a motivated intern to work in its busy publishing office  producing children’s nonfiction and fiction books for the trade, mass, and educational markets. He/she will learn how a book is made from start to finish, from photo research to licensing and permissions agreements to working with authors, editors, and designers and will be involved with editorial development, research, photo research and rights, presentation materials, and more.

Scout  Books & Media was founded by Susan Knopf in 2011 as a book packager, literary agency, and consulting firm.  Her previous experience includes packaging books with Reading Rainbow in its fledgling days, headed up publishing imprints at HarperCollins, Penguin, and Parachute (producer of John Deere, Seventeen magazine, Goosebumps, and Mary-Kate & Ashley books).

Susan works with talented writers, editors, and designers to create and produce books, represent authors and properties as a literary agent, and consult with publishers and brands.  In addition, she is a long-time board member of the American Book Producers Association, a group of some three dozen book packagers, and an intern would have an opportunity to be exposed to other producers if interested.

Intern candidates must be able to receive course credit from an accredited university.  He/she will be expected to work 16 hour/week. There will be a weekly stipend to cover transportation expenses.
