M.S. in Publishing students looking for an internship that exposes them to agency side of publishing should consider the Fall position with the Elizabeth Kaplan Literary Agency.  The boutique agency represents both fiction and nonfiction work by award-winning and best-selling authors, in the areas of narrative and practical nonfiction, biography, history, memoir, pop culture, literary fiction, young adult and middle grade fiction, and commercial women’s fiction.

Located one block from Madison Square Park, The Elizabeth Kaplan Literary Agency is looking for a part-time intern for the Fall 2012 semester (or longer) with a strong interest in books and a career in the publishing industry to come in for 10-15 hours a week.  

 

Requirements:

  • Strong reading and editing skills a must
  • Knowledge of the marketplace a plu
  • Looking for someone who can not only assess fiction manuscripts, but seek out new potential non-fiction projects.

 

We represent authors and guide their careers.   The intern will have a chance to assist us with all aspects of agenting, from reading and reviewing manuscripts and queries, editing, learning about foreign rights and contracts.  As with any internship, a part of the position will be general administrative work, but we do our best to find activities that best match the individual’s interests and keep the admin work to a minimum.

This is an unpaid internship, but we strive to assist our interns with job placement when the opportunity arises.

Description: Workman Publishing seeks an intern to work with our digital sales and promotions team to assist with ebook distribution, sales analysis and retail merchandising. In this role you will work closely with the digital sales manager to ensure that our titles are being distributed with the proper metadata in a timely manner. You may also assist with merchandising efforts at the retail level as well as providing some basic social media support for digital sales campaigns. We encourage interns to attend departmental meetings, ask questions, and get involved in the different facets of the position that interest them.

 

Internship Responsibilities: 

– Managing and updating metadata records internally; checking various e-retailers to ensure consistent metadata for all titles

– Assisting with the creation of a new direct-to-consumer digital book brand, including maintenance of social media channels

– Assisting with the ebook conversion and distribution process; making sure file distributions go through and are on-site with all ebook accounts in a timely fashion

– Assisting with creation of ebook sales reports and running ad hoc analyses

– Assisting with creation and coordination of different ebook promotions with all ebook accounts

Fall Internship with Men’s Health Magazine!

Men’s Health Magazine is looking for a Fall intern!

Job Description: The iPad design and development department at Men’s Health magazine is currently looking for an enthusiastic intern for the Fall 2012 semester.  This position is based at our company’s New York City location and is open to a student eligible for academic credit from an accredited college or university. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the department with the development of several new food and fitness apps
  • Assisting the department with the monthly digital editions of Men’s Health

Expect to gain experience in researching, gathering, and sorting various assets, as well as general production duties related to app development.

Job Requirements:  The ideal candidate will possess strong writing and organizational skills, be efficient, resourceful, and highly detail oriented.  Familiarity with InDesign, Mac system software,  and Microsoft Word, as well as interests in app development, health, and fitness are also appreciated.
