Since the holidays are almost upon us, here are some great events to get you into the holiday spirit! (If the snow on Saturday didn’t already hype you up.)
Sweet Reads: A Special Holiday Reading Series

Joyce Bakeshop hosts Sweet Reads: A Brooklyn Reading Series on the third Thursday of each month, which involves eating baked goods and drinking delicious coffee. This Thursday, the reading will be holiday-themed. You will get to eat your favorite holiday snacks (such as cupcakes and cookies) while listening to these amazing authors and songwriters: Rachel Cantor, author of Good on Paper and a three-time Pushcart Prize Nominee; Syreeta McFadden, contributor to New York Times Magazine, The Nation, Buzzfeed News, NPR, and The Guardian; Puy Navarro, actress, producer, and writer; and Jesse (Kid) Cohen, singer and songwriter of City of New York.
What the Dickens? Eighth Annual A Christmas Carol Marathon Reading
Every year, Penguin Classics hosts “What the Dickens?” Located at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, this event will showcase Christmas caroling from the members of the New York City Master Chorale and a performance of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol by dozens of writers and performers. You are encouraged to “drop in early and often to catch a selection of performers, or linger through the afternoon for the whole, spirited tale.” If you want to get into the Christmas spirit with a classic tale, then this is defintely the event for you.

YPG Tacky Holiday Sweater Party
When: December 18, 2017 @ 6–8pm
Where: The Slainté Bar and Lounge, 304 Bowery, New York, NY 10012
The Young to Publishing Group, in collaboration with the Children’s Book Council, hosts a Tacky Holiday Sweater Party every year to get into the holiday spirit! They want you to “Deck yourself before you wreck yourself.” If you are interested in networking while having some holiday fun, wear your tackiest holiday sweater and drink and eat food with fellow publishing professionals.
