Welcome Back Letter from Prof. Raskin!

January 25, 2017

Dear Colleagues and Graduate Students,

I hope you enjoyed your winter break. Welcome back to Pace University. We have 15 new students and 66 current students and 3 visiting students enrolled in the Pace Publishing program for Spring 2017, a total of 84 students this semester. The faculty and staff look forward to working with you and assisting you this term.

Please mark your calendars for the following publishing events. Lisa Sharkey will give the spring semester lecture as the David Pecker Professor on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Ms. Sharkey is Senior Vice President/Director of Creative Development at HarperCollins and is serving as David J. Pecker Visiting Professor for the 2016-17 academic year. Her lecture will take place at 163 William Street, 18th floor at the downtown NYC campus from 6 to 8 PM. She will discuss issues currently facing the publishing industry. Refreshments will be served.

Another major event and date to place on your calendar is Thursday, April 13, 2017. At that time, the Pace University Publishing Department will host the Student/Alumni Appreciation Dinner that will celebrate student excellence. The Student Appreciation Dinner will be held at 163 William Street, 18th floor from 6 to 8 PM. The dinner gives us the opportunity to recognize student and alumni achievement and the uniqueness of our publishing students and graduates. Please make every effort to attend both events.

We wish you a very successful semester. Please feel free to contact me or faculty or staff if you have any questions during the semester. My very best to you for a successful spring term.

Welcome Back Letter from Prof. Denning!

Welcome back to the Spring 2017 semester!

I hope you all had a restful winter break and that you are ready for an exciting semester in the MS in Publishing program!

Be sure to check out the blog daily as we are always updating it with great information for MS in Publishing students and alumni. We start off each week with an inspiring Quote of the Week. Other regular weekly features include: The Link of the Week, Jobs of the Week, and Around Town: Books and Magazine Events in NYC. We also post monthly Alumni in the Spotlight Interviews, Faculty/Advisory Board in the Spotlight features as well as our Media Roundups and Reports from the Trenches (we love to have students blog about field trips, guest lectures, books or magazines they have read etc. so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you want to contribute) and Volunteer and Events postings.

In addition, we also post numerous Internship and Employment opportunities so be sure to bookmark the blog. As you embark on your internship search don’t forget to go to the Internship Resources (Book and Magazine) tab on the blog. We have been working hard to update this resource and there are great links here to assist you with your search. We are also in the process of developing a robust Career Resources tab on the blog that will host useful information on resumes and cover letter writing, job searching and networking, so check back often!

The blog also includes our Faculty and Staff Bios—a great way to learn more about the backgrounds and accomplishments of your professors and publishing staff! In addition, the Publishing Links that run along the right side of the blog are also a great resource for students and publishing professionals.

I would also like to take this time to thank you for your contributions to and feedback on the blog and we hope that you are finding it to be a useful resource. Please feel free to email me (jdenning@pace.edu) with any suggestions or comments you have.

We love to hear from you and are always looking for new ways to provide you with useful information. And, for students interested in getting putting together some writing samples, putting together a post for the blog is a great way to do that.

Hope you enjoy and have a wonderful semester!
