Rosen Publishing: Editorial Assistant

Stone Management: Desktop Publisher

Stone Management is seeking a Desktop Publisher to join their growing Electronic Publishing (EP) team in the Investor Relations department. Our goal is to efficiently and accurately publish all research, press releases, and other relevant materials to the website. You will have principal responsibility for reviewing all materials before publishing to the site.

Responsibilities:

You will assist the publishing team by working with other members of the EP team to publish all content to the company website. Your primary responsibility will be reviewing and formatting reports and press releases ensuring they adhere to the company’s aesthetic and style guide and are consistent among the company’s various sectors.

You will support the team by creating email campaigns for wide distribution and will maintain multiple distributions lists. As a Desktop Publisher, you will maintain all report and email campaign analytics, in addition to updating all MS Word templates and publishing style guides. You will format special reports for publication and news articles for print by utilizing Adobe InDesign. You will support the team by assisting in editing PowerPoint presentations and in creating and updating graphics for marketing collateral and for the website.

Requirements:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree and/or a proven track record of relevant experience multi-tasking under pressure in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Have intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite required (mainly InDesign and Photoshop)
  • Have knowledge of MailChimp a plus
  • Have excellent written communication skills and you are detail oriented
  • Are able to work independently, take initiative and are enthusiastic about contributing innovative ideas to support the team

Joshua Cohen on the American Circus, comedy, and his new novel, “Moving Kings”

Joshua Cohen is an American essayist, novelist, and story writer who was named one the Best Young American Authors in 2017 by Granta Magazine.

The Point magazine’s Jesse McCarthy talks to Cohen about his latest essay in their comedy issue: “It’s a Circle,” on the death and afterlife of the American circus. Attendees will also get a look at his new book, Moving Kings, a novel that’s garnered much praise. The Washington Post says that Moving Kings is:

“A svelte comic triumph that concentrates [Cohen’s] genius . . . a fantastically agile style . . . Cohen explores themes of power and Jewish identity with the same insight that has justly attracted praise from some of the country’s most sophisticated writers.”

Gotham Writers Workshop is a creative home in New York City and Online where writers develop their craft and come together in the spirit of discovery and fellowship. They’ve been teaching creative writing and business writing since 1993. Gotham Writers Workshop has been the go-to place for writers wanting expert instruction and an artistic community.

At this event, you will get the chance to find out what goes on in a Gotham class. They are offering 24 free one-hour classes in a wide variety of courses. You’ll meet the instructors, do a little writing, and, as a thank you, receive $30 off your first 6 or 10-week class.

Note: You may sign up for one or two free classes, but no more than two. Registration is required, but if the class you want is full, feel free to walk in. Odds are good that they will find you a seat.

The Best American Poetry Reading 2017

The Best American Poetry is an anthology that is published each year which contains the best poetry of the year. This year’s editors include series editor David Lehman and guest editor Natasha Tretheway, the nineteenth US Poet Laureatte.

Lehman joins Trethewey to launch the latest volume of the anthology. Faculty News: David Delano

David Delano, Adjunct Professor
Pace University, M.S. in Publishing

David Delano’s entire career has been about books. He started working in book publishing in 1970 after attending Northwestern University and Loyola University, where he received a BA in English. His experience ranges from design to editorial management, from title acquisition to manufacturing, from production assistant to VP, and all the stops in-between.  Professor Delano’s publishing background includes Random House and Harper & Row, and printing experience was earned with industry leaders like R.R. Donnelley, G.W. Banta, and W.A. Krueger.  Currently, he is the US representative for a global printing company, Toppan Printing, Hong Kong.  Professor Delano has taught at Pace since the early 2000’s.  He also lectures at the Columbia Publishing Seminar and the NYU Summer Publishing Program.  Professor Delano has also judged the New York Book Show three times.

To add to his resume, during the summer break, Professor Delano had the pleasure of writing a book review for Publishing Research Quarterly, which has led to more writing opportunities. His review was on the book Paper: Paging through History by Mark Kurlansky, an American journalist and nonfiction writer. Paper: Paging through History is about paper production and how society  going “paperless” actually tells us that paper is here to stay.

According to Professor Delano, Kurlansky “utilized his remarkable forensic research skills to bring to life the development of a simple commodity: paper,” while capturing “the influence of paper on the global development of language, literacy, media, art, commerce and learning.” He also concludes that Paper: Paging through History “is not structured as a typical history book, but more like a biography, written with many arcs and sub-plots woven together with the development of virtually every major element that defines the human experience. Paper has been there through it all, preserving man’s permanent record.”

CNN: Senior Producer (Social Publishing)

CNN is among the top leading news and information broadcasting companies in the world. Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media: Editor

Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI) is the business segment of The Walt Disney Company that brings stories and characters to life through innovative and engaging physical products and digital experiences. DCPI comprises four main lines of business: Licensing, Retail, Games and Apps, and Content. John Freeman Presents Tales of Two Americas: Stories of Inequality in a Divided Nation

John Freeman is an American writer, literary critic, former editor of the literary magazine Granta, and former president of the National Book Critic Circle. At this event, Freeman will be presenting Tales of Two Americas: Stories of Inequality in a Divided Nation, an anthology containing 36 author stories and experiences that investigate “the profound gap between the wealthiest and the poorest in this nation” (Greenlight). There will be “a reading and panel discussion with authors Kirstin Valdez Quade, Ru Freeman, Lawrence Joseph and Jess Rulifson, who contributed pieces to the anthology.”

 PLG Fiction Book Group

Greenlight general manager Alexis hosts a book club every month at their Prospect Lefferts Gardens store. The PLG Fiction Book Group “discusses paperback fiction, reading broadly in contemporary fiction with the occasional diversion into classics.” This month, they are reading Joyce Carol Oates’ novel, Carthage. This is “a mesmerizing novel that examines grief, faith, justice, and the atrocities of war through the story of a young girl’s disappearance in a small Adirondack town.” Not only will you get the chance to discuss the plot and themes of Carthage, you will also be able to connect with others who are interested in reading and discussing fiction.

An Evening with Europa Editions

Europa Editions is a multi-award winning independent publisher of quality fiction. Its mission is “to bring fresh international voices to the American and British markets and to provide quality editions that have a distinct look and consistently high levels of editorial standards.” Greenlight will be hosting this event celebrating two of Europa Editions’ publications by authors Chantel Acevedo and Santiago Gamboa.

Chantel Acevedo is a “master storyteller” and will be presenting her newest novel, The Living Infinite, a historical book “based on the true story of the Spanish princess Eulalia, an outspoken firebrand at the Bourbon court during the troubled and decadent final years of her family’s reign.”

Santiago Gamboa is a Columbian writer and will be presenting his novel, Return to the Dark Valley, “a mesmerizing polyphonic novel that spans three continents and two centuries as it weaves a tale about dislocation, the violent urges that can bring about regeneration, and the impossibility of return.”
