Macmillan | Assistant Editor

Macmillan Publishing was founded by Daniel and Alexander Macmillan in London in 1843 and is another one of the Big 5 publishers. It has a number of imprints across the globe. Some of their U.S. publishers include Farrar, Straus and Giroux; Henry Holt and Company; Picador; St. Martin’s Press; Tor/Forge; Macmillan Audio; and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. Macmillan is looking for an Assistant Editor to manage Cookstr.com, its online collection of cookbook recipes. The chosen candidate will also assist in editing and publishing books for various imprints.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of a high-volume, fast-paced editor’s desk
  • Track manuscripts through production process
  • Read and evaluate book proposals and manuscripts on submission
  • Write flap copy, catalog copy, launch sheets and tip sheets
  • Act as a liaison between editorial and sales, marketing, production, and design departments
  • Initiate and respond to correspondence with authors and agents at all stages of the publishing process
  • Edit manuscripts
  • Social media and basic digital media skills

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in humanities or other related field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 1 year prior book publishing experience
  • An interest in and knowledge of books, publishing, and food media
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Strong editing skills
  • Experienced at multitasking while working in a fast-paced, energetic environment
  • Superior organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail; good follow-up skills
  • Strong work ethic and initiative with customer service orientation
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently

Rosen Publishing is looking for an Editorial Assistant who is qualified, detail-oriented, and highly organized.   • Draft, track, and file contracts and payment requests

  • Correspond with authors and editors
  • Enter data for marketing purposes
  • Various other administrative tasks, as assigned
  • Copyedit and line-edit as needed, in Word and/or InCopy

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • 6 months related work experience preferred
