Radius Book Group is looking for a Managing Editor/Book Production Manager to take charge of its editorial and production processes. The candidate must love structure, organization, problem solving, and learning new things.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Radius Book Group title list
  • Report to and work closely with the editorial director to ensure that all titles are produced to the highest standards, on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of our authors
  • Work independently, yet in coordination with in-house colleagues and outside partners
  • Set priorities and meet established goals
  • Check and create a report on the status of each project
  • Make sure each title is on schedule
  • Communicate with the diverse parties involved in producing our titles
  • Perform and ensure quality control from manuscript through printed books
  • Maintain records
  • Place service orders, approve and make sure invoices are paid, and transfer electronic files
  • Host meetings as necessary

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in any field required (Masters Degree in publishing, or equivalent experience preferred)
  • 3+ years of full-time book production management experience
  • First-hand knowledge of the full book publishing chain
  • Familiar with all sectors of the book publishing industry
  • Exceptional knowledge of primary publishing style guide
  • Strong design aesthetic
  • Knowledge of rules and implementation of publishing systems
  • Knowledge of quality control protocols
  • Knowledge of print media requirements
  • Knowledge of electronic media development
  • Functional knowledge of computer hardware and software

Knopf Doubleday | Marketing Associate

Knopf Doubleday is looking for a Marketing Associate to join the academic marketing team and report to the Executive Director of Academic marketing. This position involves “bringing literary fiction and serious nonfiction titles to college professors and high school teachers through innovative consumer-facing marketing campaigns.”

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the creation, implementation, and execution of assigned marketing campaigns
  • Ensure all aspects of each campaign is completed successfully and on time
  • Prepare for and attend book exhibits and academic conferences
  • Create and update marketing content on company websites
  • Manage, design, and advertise schedule
  • Create and manage newsletters and catalogs
  • Select featured titles and write copy

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of related work experience, academic publishing experience strongly preferred
  • Possesses a keen understanding of book marketing
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of key marketing concepts, including email and social media marketing and traditional book marketing
  • Ability to travel up to 6-7 times throughout the year across the domestic U.S.

Nature Research | Editorial Assistant

Location: New York, NY

Nature Research is looking for an Editorial Assistant to support the editorial team and manage the process of manuscripts from submission to acceptance. This position also involves communicating with authors, editors, and reviewers.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the flow of manuscripts from submission to acceptance through the manuscript tracking system (MTS)
  • Perform quality checks on manuscripts and ensure all legal forms are collected and stored
  • Provide MTS support for authors, reviewers, and editors
  • Troubleshoot and assist with system issues and escalate to relevant teams if needed
  • Communicate with authors, reviewers, and editors via email and telephone
  • Maintain correct information within the databases
  • Update person records within the MTS and ensure manuscript information is correct
  • Assist with editorial reports
  • Assist with other ad hoc tasks associated with the editorial workflow of manuscripts
  • Provide team cover during periods of absence

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working in a fast-paced office environment is preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and database management

Publishing Perspectives | Marketing and Business Development Manager

Publishing Perspectives is “an online business magazine that covers trends, people, and companies shaping the global book industry.” Its mission is to help publishing and media professionals connect by providing international publishing information.

Publishing Perspectives is looking for a Marketing and Business Development Manager to work with the Publisher and Business Development Director. The candidate will help develop new business opportunities with international publishing companies, manage relationships with existing and new advertisers, manage key marketing activities and audience development, and sell advertising and other sponsored opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, connect with, and sell to potential advertisers and sponsors for Publishing Perspectives website and print magazines
  • Work with Publishing Perspectives and its partner companies—IPR License and the Frankfurter Buchmesse—to develop business opportunities across all three companies
  • Expand awareness of Publishing Perspectives in the international book publishing community
  • Work with the Publisher to develop custom proposals and sponsored solutions for advertisers and partners
  • Manage advertising projects, including timelines and deliverables
  • Develop sales and marketing material about Publishing Perspectives
  • Manage key marketing activities, including relationships and audience development
  • Create and manage lists of target advertisers, sponsors and partners
  • Some domestic and international travel is required

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience working in book publishing (marketing or sales)
  • Some knowledge of the book publishing industry
  • Ability to keep track of and meet deadlines on multiple projects at a time
  • Experience working with people from other countries
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Comfortable speaking and presenting to groups of people
  • Computer literacy, including MS Office, social media, Adobe, and HTML
  • Native or near native English fluency; foreign language is a plus
