Internship Opportunity at the Writers House

Two departments at the Writers House are looking for interns!

Read on for descriptions of the two positions: literary agent intern and subsidiary rights intern.

The Writer’s House is beginning the selection process for the autumn term (late August-December). The internship requires a 24 hour per week commitment. Beyond the administrative, organizational, and logistical duties, each intern will be tasked with reviewing submission queries, manuscripts, and composing reader’s reports, editorial letters, and pitch letters.

Some of the other features of the Writers House Intern Program:

  • Tutorials – interns receive training in contracts, subsidiary rights, accounting (BAITS), and other areas.
  • Editorial Boot Camp – interns receive strategies for composing rejection letters, reader’s reports, editorial letters, and pitch letters.
  • Career Counseling –  both group and one-on-one sessions.

Information for the Subsidiary Rights Intern:

“We are a very busy department looking for a candidate who is organized, responsible, takes initiative and who has excellent time-management skills. Experience in Subsidiary Rights a plus, but not necessary.”

  • Aside from various administrative tasks, the Subsidiary Rights Intern will assist with the following:
  • Managing authors copies from foreign publishers and audio publishers
  • Maintaining the Foreign Rights library
  • Managing book requests from publishers
  • Sending large book submissions to foreign agents
  • Analyzing royalty statements
  • 18-20 hours/ week for the Subsidiary Rights Intern
