Professor Jane Kinney-Denning is the M.S. in Publishing program’s Executive Director of Internships and Corporate Outreach. In addition to teaching full-time, she works with students to help them secure internships in the book, magazine, and digital publishing industries, and advises them as they write their thesis papers. Pace students intern at prestigious publishing houses like Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Oxford University Press, and Scholastic; at innovative new publishers like Open Road Media, Rosetta Books, Pubslush; and at literary agencies like Folio Literary Agency, The Writer’s House, and the Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency.

Professor Denning works closely with key industry professionals, HR Managers, and organizations such as VIDAWe Need Diverse Books, The Book Industry Guild, the Book Industry Study Group, BookExpo America, the American Association of Publishers, and the Young to Publishing Group to facilitate conference and panel opportunities for students and faculty. In the spring of 2012, Professor Denning became the President of the NYC Chapter of the Women’s National Book Association, a 100-year-old nonprofit founded to provide educational and networking opportunities to women working in the industry. In June 2016, she began her term as the WNBA’s National President and coordinated the organization’s Centennial Celebration, which took place in October 2017. She is also a WNBA NGO Representative at the United Nations’s Department of Public Information.

Professor Denning is also the Editor of the M.S. in Publishing Blog, a valuable resource for current students, alumni, and faculty. She is responsible for all aspects of the blog’s development and works with two Graduate Assistants to create timely and unique content.

Professor Denning also has extensive experience in acquiring academic, scientific, and trade books, having most recently worked as a Senior Acquisitions Editor for the scientific and professional publishers CRC Press and Van Nostrand Reinhold. Here, in the area of Environmental Science, she acquired a number of important titles on issues like chemical brain injury and wetlands restoration. Denning was also a Senior Editor at HarperCollins Publishers, acquiring books for the academic market in the areas of Composition and Literature. Before moving to HarperCollins, Denning was a Developmental Editor at CV Mosby and worked as a Sales Representative for Scott Foresman/Little, Brown Publishers.

Professor Denning has interviewed figures like Leonard Peltire, Bianca Jaggar, Michael Moore, Deirdre Bair, and John P. Stern.  She has written two “Soapbox” pieces for Publishers Weekly – one on the Joy of Shared Reading and one on the #MeToo Movement – and regularly contributes to The Bookwoman, the official publication of the WNBA.

Professor Denning has a Masters of Arts degree in Italian Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
